Abstract

Objective: To examine curricular structures of Dentistry courses in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Brazil, focusing on the integration and offering of the discipline of orofacial harmonization (HOF). Methods: We analyzed curricular matrices available from all HEIs in the National Registry of Courses and Higher Education Institutions of the Ministry of Education (MEC) in all Brazilian regions. The administrative category of the HEIs (public or private), HOF offering, location, profile of the curricular component, teaching format, period of offering and workload were evaluated. Result: Disregarding institutions with multiple locations in the same State, we identified 455 undergraduate courses in Dentistry across the country. Regarding the inclusion of HOF, 84 HEIs have it as a curricular component, 58.3% of which are mandatory. The workload varies from 20 to 120 hours in the matrices analyzed. Regarding the period offered, there is variation from the 1st to the 5th year, being most commonly offered from the 4th year onwards. Conclusion: It is concluded that the offer of HOF as a curricular component is present in 18.46% of HEIs.
