A Knowledge and attitudes of dental students regarding care for patients with HIV

The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) affects millions of people around the world. In Brazil, according to data from the Ministry of Health, in 2020 37,107 new cases of HIV were registered. In addition, many people live with the virus and need constant health care to maintain their quality of life. Dentistry plays a fundamental role in the comprehensive care of these patients, not only in the prevention and treatment of frequent oral diseases, but also in the management of other systemic conditions and complications. The objective of this study is to evaluate the degree of knowledge of dental students in relation to the care of patients with HIV in a university in Paraná. This is a descriptive study, with a quantitative approach, and multivariate analysis, in order to identify possible correlations between variables. It is hoped that this research can contribute to the identification of the degree of knowledge of dental students in relation to the care of patients with HIV in a University of Paraná, pointing out gaps and challenges that can be faced in teaching and dental practice in relation to HIV/AIDS.
