Laboratorial methods for identifying Candida sp

Abstract

HN dissemination and prolon- ged survival of AIDS patients pointed oral candidiasis as an important problem for oral medi- cine. The increment of elderly population and large use of immu- nosupressive therapy have also contributed for this factoThe aim of this work was to present a Iite- rature review about laboratory methods for identiíying Candida sp associated to oral candidiasis. This identification can be based onmor- phologic, biochemical and antige- nic features ofthe microorganism. Laboratories have to dispense simple, objective and modern diagnostic methods, since fungi can be used as a model for understan- ding molecular and genetic proces- ses common to every being.
