Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the knowledge of orthodontists about the action of the per- formance of speech therapy in patients with mouth bre- athing. The research was done in the form of a Quiz directed by 26 dentists specialists in orthodontics, all residing in the city of Passo Fundo - RS. Results: It was noticed and intimate knowledge of the theoretical re- lationship between speech therapy and orthodontics, since both act directly on the stomatognathic system. The reasons for referrals to speech therapy are related to functional issues, but there is still a lot of resistance in the patients when you see the speech therapist is indi- cated. In cases of orthodontic relapse, all professionals surveyed reported that the majority of recurrences are due to the lack of accompanying speech.
