Abstract

Patients with Special Needs presents great vulnerability to distubances in the shape, function and esthetics of their stomatognathic system, and possible socio-econo- mic problems that limits their access to private and pu- blic dentistry services. Objective: The aim of this article was to identify the clinic profile of 89 patients with Spe- cial Needs assisted between 2005 and 2010 in the Oral and Maxillofacial Department of São Vicente de Paulo Hospital de Passo Fundo and to describe the manage- ment technique to assist this patients. Methods: Was realized a descriptive study of a convenience sample, with data collected from the patients dentistry clinical files, systematized in a specific form and presented in a table. Results: The most significative results show that the patients belong to families with low income, live far from dentistry assistance centers, present neuropsycho- motor sequelae that compromise oral health. Assistance in Hospital level required a trained dentistry team, as soon as, general anesthesic technique. Conclusion: It´s necessary the implementation of oral health public poli- cies that behold promotion, prevention and specialized assistance for these patients.
