Abstract

Purpose: the present study purpose is to define the profile of the group of risk for oral leukoplakia from the data base of the diagnosed cases in the Laboratory of Oral Pathology - College of Dentistry of the Federal University from Rio Grande do Sul in the period of 1999 - 2009. Methods: the study was based on the biopsy files of the Laboratory of Pathology - College of Dentistry - Federal University from Rio Grande Do Sul. All the data of the 177 cases were compiled with the program SPSS 14.0, a descriptive analysis was carried out and the statistical chi-square (x ²) test with p≠0,05 of significance was applied to verify possible statistical relations among the variables. Results: upon correlating the anatomical localization and the histopathological diagnostic variable, and anatomical localization and age, significant statistics was obtained. The highest prevalence of lesions is found between the 5th and 6th decade of life. Conclusion: the group of risk for oral leukoplakia is between the 5th and 6th decade of life, representing 55,9% of the cases.
