Antibiotic prophylaxis of postoperative infection on pre and postoperative periods in third molars surgery

The routine use of antibiotic prophylaxis in oral surgery for exodontics of third molars is controversial. The aim of this study was to evaluate the pharmacologic conduct used by oral surgeries that accomplish these procedures in relation to the prophylaxis of postoperative infections, comparing this data to the conduct of professors in the Lutheran University of Brazil, Canoas/RS. A questionnaire was applied to 60 oral surgeries, with the intention of verifying the criteria of indication of postoperative antibiotic prophylaxis, pharmacologic dosage and association with chemical control of bacterial biofilm, relating these variables according to the origin course and graduation time of the professional. Most of the interviewees indicates prophylaxis postoperative infections, however they do not follow a defined protocol sustained in scientific evidences.Downloads
