Abstract

The dental surgeon has important role as adjuvant in the diagnosis of patients with hypertension. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the variations in the cardiovascular parameters (arterial pressure and heart rate) in patients who were submitted to dental extractions under local anesthesia. The study was delineated in such retrospective observational manner, being accomplished in the Dentistry Faculty of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and based on data of files which contain anamnese, physical exams, radiographic examination and description of procedures achieved in the period of twenty one months. From the patients who were submitted to the dental extractions, 21,8% had some cardiovascular alteration. Patients aged between 60 and 69 years presented greater prevalence of cardiovascular alterations. The cardiovascular did not show statistical differences according to age, gender and race. Variations in the cardiovascular parameters that could unchain clinical adverse events in the patients submitted to dental extractions have not been found.
