Abstract

The current philosophy of maximum preserving and minimum intervention has increased the interest in methods of ultraconservations cavities preparations. Conventional techniques that use rotary instruments often cause discomfort as they generate heat, pressure, vibration and noise. This fact that motivates the substitution or association with the procedures ultrasonic instrumentation, high-power laser, micro air-abrasion and chemical solutions, which are more comfortable for patients because it reduces the need for anesthesia and preserve greater quantity of healthy tooth structure. This review of literature will address alternative methods to make cavities preparations in Dentistry, highlighting advantages and disadvantages, with emphasis on methods that employ chemical solutions. It was possible to conclude that, according to the techno-scientific current stage, the chemical solutions are distinguished by providing greater comfort to the patient as well as promoting selectivity in the removal of infected tissue dental and not interfere with the quality of adhesive restorations.
