Abstract

Tooth supernumerary is one that exceeds the normal number, and may occur in both dental arches. Its etiology is not yet fully established, although most of the authors believe in the theory of dental hyperactivity of the blade. For their prevalence, occurs more in permanent teeth, and is predominant in the male gender (2:1). The supernumerary teeth are classified according to their morphology and localization. The presence of these teeth can cause problems such as failures in the eruption, displacement of teeth, apinhamentos and cysts and tumors odontogênicos. The diagnosis is usually by means of radiographs of routine, because the majority of these teeth are included and are asymptomatic. Therefore objectives is to make a brief review on the issue and present a clinical case of the female patient, 23 years, melanoderma featuring three quarters molars. The early diagnosis proved to be important for the resolution of the case in order to minimize or even prevent the development of complications and thus establish a proper plan of treatment.
