Abstract

In the present article we will address the evolutionary conception developed by the English naturalist Charles Darwin (1809-1882) on the natural world in The Origin of Species (1859) and on the human being in The Origin of Man and Sexual Selection (1871). Before that, we will discuss Darwin’s relationship with atheism, since his ideas represented a fracture in the Judeo-Christian worldview cultivated in the history of the West, and his figure became a benchmark in the work of many early atheists of the 21st century.
