Antisemitism and Anticommunism in Julio Meinvielle

Julio Meinvielle (1905-1973) was a Catholic priest who worked in Argentina during the 1930s-1970s. He was one of the main intellectuals of Argentine Catholic nationalism, a conservative current of thought that had a strong influence on Argentine politics, especially on the military extreme right. He began his intellectual trajectory by polemicizing with the Catholic renovator thought led by Jacques Maritain. Throughout the Arturo Frondizi government (1958-1962), he gave numerous conferences and lectures denouncing that the way was being paved for the implantation of communism in Argentina. In a context marked by the Cold War, Julio Meinvielle brought together anti-Semitism and anti-communism in his positions in defense of authentic Argentine national Catholic values.
