O conceito de etnogênese: o dinamismo histórico das identidades coletivas

O arcabouço analítico da etnogênese surgiu e se consolidou nas últimas cinco décadas por meio de um profícuo diálogo entre antropologia e história. As investigações oriundas dessa abordagem questionaram as interpretações que percebiam povos indígenas como portadores de uma essência de indianidade que acabavam perdendo em processos de aculturação em virtude do avanço colonial europeu. De modo geral, a perspectiva conceitual da etnogênese procura conciliar a relatividade das categorias analíticas, o caráter processual de formação e desaparecimento das identidades sociais, a historicidade das sociedades investigadas e identificar as tensões explícitas e implícitas na esfera das relações de dominação.
