“Um investimento em Liderança”: Bolsas da Fundação Rockefeller e a Globalização do Conhecimento em Saúde Pública, 1915-1940

A Fundação Rockefeller, a maior filantropia da primeira metade do século XX, iniciou um programa global de bolsas para treinar funcionarios da saúde pública. A maioria dos bolsistas foi trazida para Universidades nos Estados Unidos para estudar medicina baseada em ciência por um ou mais anos, seguida por trabalho de campo em estações de pesquisa financiadas pela Fundação. Os bolsistas voltaram a seus países de origem para servir em instituições de saúde pública e levaram consigo as estratégias do estilo americano da Fundação para a promoção e implementação de programas de saúde pública. O programa de bolsas de estudos em saúde pública influenciou profundamente a saúde pública global no século XX.
