This iri oitro study was developed to compare two contrast media used in sialography: an oil-soluble product (Lipiodol DF) and a water-soluble product (Telebrix 38). Experimental models and optical densitometer readings were used to simulate and evaluate the salivary glands during the sialographic examination. The radiopacity of each contrast media was evaluated at baseline and 30 s, 60 s and 90 s after injection into the artificial saliva column. No differences in radiopacity were observed between Lipiodol DF and Telebrix 38 at baseline. The Lipiodol DF did not show any dilution in artificial saliva remaining with similar optical density during all readings. In contrast, Telebrix 38 showed significant dilution right after injection in artificial saliva: 50% at 30s, 50% to 75% at 60 s and more than 75% dilution at 90 s. Key wor'ds: artificial saliva, tri vitro study, radiography, contrast media.Downloads
