Metastasis of a renal tumor in the tongue: case report and literature update

Aim: To report a rare case of metastasis of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) in the tongue and highlight relevant aspects for the dentist. Materials and Methods: Caucasian male patient, 60 years old, with a history of RCC with bone metastasis. Clinically, a nodular lesion was observed on the left side of the tongue, measuring 2.3 centimeters in its largest diameter, non-ulcerated, asymptomatic, and also a nodular lesion on the scalp. The patient was referred to a head and neck surgeon and an excisional biopsy was performed. Results: Histopathological examination confirmed the metastatic nature of the lesions on the tongue and scalp, originating from a RCC. Conclusion: Although the occurrence of metastasis in the tongue is rare, it is essential that the dentist is aware of this possibility, especially when dealing with patients with a history of malignant tumor.
