Abstract

Composite resin restorations are widely used in dentistry, and repairs with Bulk-fill resin offer advantages such as practicality and reduced clinical time. This study evaluated the bond strength of Bulk-fill resin repairs on conventional resin, considering different surface treatments. Fifty samples of Opallis composite resin (FGM) were fabricated in a metal mold (8×8×4 mm) and light-cured in 2 mm increments for 20 seconds each. After 10,000 thermocycling cycles, the samples were divided into five groups: AfA (phosphoric acid + adhesive), AfSA (phosphoric acid + silane + adhesive), PAfA (diamond bur + phosphoric acid + adhesive), PAfSA (diamond bur + phosphoric acid + silane + adhesive), and PSA (diamond bur + silane + adhesive). Repairs were performed using Opus Bulk Fill APS resin (FGM) in a mold of 8×8×8 mm and stored in distilled water at 37 °C for four weeks. The samples were subjected to a microtensile bond strength test. Statistical analysis (Kruskal-Wallis and Dwass-Steel-Critchlow-Fligner post-test) showed that the use of a diamond bur (PAfA: 11.3 MPa; PAfSA: 10.9 MPa; PSA: 14.7 MPa) resulted in higher bond strength, with a significant difference for the PSA group compared to groups without diamond bur treatment (AfA and AfSA). There was no significant influence from the isolated use of silane or phosphoric acid. It is concluded that surface treatment with a diamond bur combined with silane is recommended to optimize bond strength and increase the longevity of repairs with Bulk-fill resin.
