Clashes in the border: the making of the borderlands between brazil and argentina (1889-1894)
Abstract
Abstract: This study consists of a proposal for the analysis of travel writing made by Argentine and Brazilian travelers went to Brazil-Argentina border and published texts about this region between 1889 and 1894. Through these stories, we aim to develop a better understanding of the author comprehension of borderland. We will be give special attention to the incidence of internal factors in the formulation and execution of Brazilian foreign policy, especially regarding the prevailing type of regime since, the passage of Monarchy to Republic was taking place at that time. On the Argentine side, will analyze impressions registered by the state agents regarding the Brazilian presence at the border.
