Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has imposed unprecedented challenges on education, requiring new ways of recording and understanding this experience. This article proposes the use of Oral History as a methodology to be adopted by the Sant’Ana Municipal Elementary School, located in the city of Rio Grande/RS, with the aim of preserving the collective memory of the pandemic period. The choice of Oral History is based on the premise that this approach can faithfully convey the feelings and experiences of the school community. The book Evidence of History, by François Hartog, supports the theoretical framework by highlighting the role of the witness as a historical source, whose narrative requires critical analysis within the historiographical context. The study thus seeks to reflect on the potential of Oral History as a methodological tool for building historical memory in educational settings.
