Development of the intelligibility of oral production of English as a second language

This article has the aim of understand the perception of teachers and students at the school in relation to the intelligibility of oral production of English for communication. Study based on authors such as: Smith and Nelson (1985), Kenworthy (1987), Munro and Derwing (1995), Bamgbose (1998), Jenkins (2000), Walker (2010) and Chan (2021). Qualitative and explanatory research, with the generation of empirical data through forms, with the participation of 67 students of intermediate level and six teachers from the Lifelike Idiomas school, in Seara, SC, with content analysis in Bardin (2016). The article is linked to Research Line II, Diversity, interculturality and inclusive education, to SDG 4 – Quality education, and to the SULEAR research group. The results indicate that, for both groups, pronunciation, intelligibility, accuracy and lexical density are fundamental for oral production.
