This research presents the pedagogical workshop Afroeira, which integrated scientific, cultural, and social knowledge through the study of the aroeira fruit and the Aroeira neighborhood, where the school is located. The workshop connected the teaching of Natural Sciences with Human Rights Education. Based on the action research methodology, the project involved undergraduate Chemistry students from PIBID and two high school classes, who collaboratively developed interdisciplinary and reflective practices, valuing dialogue, Afro-Brazilian culture, and local community traditions. The results show that this approach contributed to critical and civic education beyond scientific knowledge, fostering students’ interest in university life and resistance to the culture of hate. The actions developed in the Afroeira workshop promoted contextualized learning and various benefits for the participants, suggesting it as a replicable strategy in the school and similar educational contexts.
