The production of fresh food in the province of Misiones —a non-pampean agrarian economy in northeastern Argentina— was a response by small producers to the disruption of agro-industrial chains, generated by the breakdown of State regulation in the 1990s. Although the production and commercialization of food by the farmers themselves constituted a path designed by the main agrarian organization of the province (the Misiones Agrarian Movement), the development of the activity over the last 25 years generated a specific format of agency: small, domestic associations that multiply without increasing scale. This article describes the characteristics of some of these organizations, using data from ethnographic fieldwork carried out in various rural settlements in the province of Misiones.
