In this work, we analyze Paulo Freire contributions to Brazilian legal education. Initially, we understand the historical framework of the emergence and growth of legal courses in the country, in order to identify the main criticisms made of the current model. Next, we understand the lessons of Paulo Freire's pedagogy, which can respond to the demands for improving Brazilian legal education. Bibliographic in nature, the article dialogues with authors who deal with the subject of education, such as Boaventura, Warat and Morin. We conclude that Paulo Freire indicates fruitful ways to alleviate the disciplinaryization of knowledge to deal with human and social complexity, as well as proposing a humanizing teaching-learning process, focused on students' autonomy and freedom, viewing education as a political action. Furthermore, it allows us to achieve a perspective of university extension as effective communication between academia and community, in a dialogue and ecology of horizontal knowledge, developing skills and abilities.
