This article revisits the democratic model from two approaches: the descriptive one by Schumpeter and, which redefines it based on the concrete reality of capitalism that the author faces, and the prescriptive one by Ferrajoli, which proposes a model based on of its affinities with values and civilizing institutes, with a view to overcoming the impasses in which this form of government is currently found. Subsequently, it addresses the descriptive concept of democracy elaborated by Schumpeter, as well as the redefinition that he operates on that one. So, the article focuses its attention on the Theories of Law and Politics elaborated by Luigi Ferrajoli, to examine his normative model of democracy, based on his connections with other categories. The methodological trajectory is qualitative, using bibliographic research as a form of data collection.
