Knowing that the discourse in favor of parents' practice of educating children in a domestic environment gains strength in the Brazilian educational context, this article aims to analyze the issues immanent to the theme of homeschooling as a public educational policy. The study is marked by an analysis of the Brazilian reality, decomposing both a social critique and an investigation of the premises and conditions of education in the country. Methodologically, the text is guided by qualitative analysis carried out due to bibliographic research on homeschooling and schooling themes, with emphasis on the analysis of the historical evolution made by Honneth (2009; 2015; 2001) in relation to the concept of freedom, as well as in the analysis about the modern pathologies resulting from the adoption of a misunderstanding about this concept. It comes to the conclusion that the practice of homeschooling does not correspond to the desires of today's society because it is a policy that isolates the child and accentuates the country's social inequalities, insofar as it generates a deficit in recognition among equals.
