Given the growth of Distance Education (EaD) and the debates that arise from this expansion, it is urgent to raise a discussion about counterproductive extremes. In methodological terms, this article is an essay based on articles, books and other theoretical works. The text then revisits the debate proposed by Umberto Eco with a view to investigating the most current context. The objective is to analyze the perspectives of apolitical and integrated intellectuals, proposing, from this, a third way that is not reduced to dichotomies. As a result of the discussion, we arrive at the proposal to think of more conscious and critical ways of analyzing the phenomenon of the expansion of EaD, without incurring in half-truths that hinder the detailed understanding of the modality.
