The Oeste Potiguar Science Fair has been held annually since 2011, where students in Basic Education are encouraged to carry out scientific projects based on local problems, enabling the expansion of knowledge and changes in the environment. Thus, the objective is to investigate the impacts of FCOP participation on the career choice of students completing elementary and high school. To this end, a documentary research was carried out, accessing FCOP registration records from the 2019 to 2023 editions. After identifying the students, we used the results of SISU and IFRN to monitor the students' choices for continuing their studies. It was observed that in the years 2019 and 2020, there was a correspondence between the area of knowledge of the scientific project and the area chosen for continuing studies. In 2021 to 2023, the choice of institutions close to their homes seems to have impacted the selection of the intended course.
