This study examines strategies to address hate speech in the media through Human Rights Education (HRE). The theoretical framework discusses both traditional and new media, highlighting their role in HRE policies. It is a documentary research that presents Hate Speech Reports from the United Nations and the Brazilian State, in addition to guiding documents on HRE. The findings indicate the State’s tendency to revise HRE policies with specific attention to the media environment, particularly regarding training, with recommendations contained in the documents, such as: education and culture in Human Rights; schools and universities as promoters of democratic coexistence; safe internet, media literacy, and popular and community communication; protection and reparation for victims of hate speech; data collection and research to support actions and public policies; and best practices for journalists and communicators to counter hate speech
