The objective of this study was to document the psychosocial experiences of volunteers using the documentary-research method, integrating science and society, with 33 participants. Mediated by digital technologies, the resulting footage and other audiovisual materials recorded, stored, and shared consisted of more than 180 hours of technical and technological training, collective, democratic, and transdisciplinary construction, editing, assembly, supervision, and dissemination over a period of one year. The results allowed for discussions and theoretical and methodological deepening on the appropriation of audiovisual language mediated by digital technologies for the popularization of science, as well as on the subjective, affective, ethical-political dynamics, resignifications, and psychosocial experiences that constitute the engagement, motivations, and exercise of citizenship of those who volunteer. We conclude that documentary-research on volunteer work was effective as a creative and innovative method for conducting, disseminating, and popularizing academic and scientific studies within the humanities, with an emphasis on psychosocial phenomena.
