Education as a factor for the resocialization of convicted: an experience in the APAC Method

This study is part of a dissertation that presented qualitative research carried out in a model prison unit that adopts the methodology of the Association of Assistance and Protection to the Convicted (APAC) in the city of Itaúna / MG. The research was carried out with 7 lecturers who teach in the juvenile and adult education prison (EJA). The data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed according to Bardin's categorization (2016). The research consisted of 2 categories: "The APAC Professor and the Transversal Work and Consumption Axis" and "The Professor’s Work and the APAC Method", these categories were divided into 7 subcategories. This work focusses in the sixth subcategory "The professor and the importance of education for citizenship" was approached with the goal of demonstrating the professor' understanding of their role in the resocialization of convicted persons in order to promote social pacification. It was concluded that the professor engagement and its acting in accordance with official teaching documents are fundamental for social reintegration.
