The present article socializes understandings regarding the process of formation of concepts from the perspective of historical-cultural psychology, in special from the Activity Theory. This production is a section from a Doctoral research in Education in Sciences under development, and it aims to analyze and discuss issues related to the process of formation of concepts in the study environments, and the implications of these processes in human development. There is also an analysis, with Marxist assumptions in relation to the school and academic formation, of the teaching and the learning, and their directions to the job market. It is a qualitative research that sought support from theorists of the historical-cultural line. Results indict the need for changes in the conceptions regarding the formation of concepts, from the curricular organization towards the construction of knowledge by the subjects with basis on the collectivity by the assumptions of the mediations and the formation of teachers to work in basic and higher education.
