Child Scale of Social Attitudes toward Inclusion

This paper describes the validation process of a scale called Social Attitudes toward Inclusion – Child Scale (ASI-EI). The study included 1063 Elementary School students, 500 males and 563 females, from four Brazilian regions. For data collection, the ASI-EI was used, consisting of 20 items, 10 of which expressing favorable social attitudes toward inclusion and another 10 unfavorable ones. ASI-EI was applied collectively in classrooms. Student t test and Chi-square test evidenced the adequacy of the items. The reliability of the scale was evidenced by the split half procedure. The validity analysis produced unequivocal evidence that the ASI-EI measures the phenomenon it is intended to measure. The study developed resulted in the construction of a valid and reliable scale to measure the social attitudes of elementary school students toward inclusion.
