This work is a documentary analysis of the textbook, a collection made available to public schools in the State of São Paulo, prepared by the authors Sônia Lopes and Sergio Rosso. The research problem is concerned with pointing out how much the centralization of the textbook, as the main means of teaching, can limit the transforming role of teaching-learning, nullifying the real life experiences of students, students, educators and educators. The investigation started from a qualitative point of view, analyzing the text and images of the book, based on discussions about the cultural dimensions of sex education articulated with Paulo Freire's conception of critical pedagogy and Walter Benjamin's concept of authentic experience. The results showed an embedded language of moral values tended by a biologizing vision that reinforce gender roles, with no space for problematizing real situations of prejudice and oppression. It is concluded then the importance of decentralizing the textbook of pedagogical practice, and seeking to build with the students, subjects of knowledge, the authentic experience of teaching and learning that seeks to overcome and transform reality.
