In March 2022, the Secretary of Education of the State of São Paulo instituted a new Career Plan for the Teaching Staff which, in some way, configures a new stage in the Reform of Secondary Education, modifying the one instituted in December 1997. The present work deals with the main points altered in the “new career” and makes a brief analysis of its consequences, focusing on the process of the year 2023assigning classes. It is qualitative research, with a descriptive-analytical character, based on the technique of document analysis and semi-structured interviews. The methodological development is organized in two parts: 1) analysis and comparison between the New Career Plan with the previous one; 2) recovery of the process of assigning classes from semi-structured interviews with teachers. In order to gain access to important information about the new career model, which changes and makes work relations more flexible, we seek to contextualize it in the set of measures of the High School Reform. The study result shows that, under the disguise of an increase in teachers’ salaries, there are hidden harmful consequences in the “new career” detailed throughout the text.
