This paper presents a proposal for reading and text production whose objective is to analyze the development of a Didactic Sequence aimed at developing language skills with the legend genre in elementary school. This is an action research, with a qualitative-interpretive approach, which uses as an object of sample analysis the productions of students in two 9th year classes – in a municipal public school (Sertão) and another in the state network (Agreste) of Pernambuco. The methodology used is the Didactic Genre Sequence (Dolz; Noverraz; Schneuwly, 2004). The object of analysis were the texts produced by the students, considering the characteristics of the genre under study such as narrativity, textuality and aspects of the fabulous. Starting from the initial situation, after analyzing the results of the activities, the teachers who authored this research highlight the contribution of the study of the legend genre to the autonomy, enjoyment and criticality of the participating students.
