Given the Brazilian documents that guide education and highlight the importance of digital education, schools may rethink their pedagogical practices to incorporate digital resources present in society, such as smartphone applications. Then, the objective of this research was to conduct a literature review to identify how applications have been used in Biology teaching in the Brazilian context. Ten works (7 articles and 3 dissertations) obtained through search in the CAPES Periodicals Portal, BDTD and 3 journals were analyzed, based on defined criteria, to answer five research questions. In general, It was observed that different applications have been used to make classes more dynamic, interactive and attractive for students, promoting the appropriation of the biological concepts covered. However, most pedagogical initiatives with applications still came from researchers and not from Biology teachers who work in the classroom.
