University extension activities, by promoting scientific divulgation, represent an important pathway for curricular integration of extension within undergraduate programs. This study investigated how questions formulated by children can foster extension activities during the initial training of teachers. Ten questions from fifth-grade elementary students participating in the activity "I want to know: letters to the scientist", part of the extension project "Science Pop: scientific divulgation in network", were randomly selected from a database of 323 letters using simple random sampling. The selected letters were categorized into five themes: Myths and Fiction; Technology and Engineering; Life and Health Sciences; Physics and Chemistry; and Paleontology. The analysis revealed that children’s questions provide significant opportunities for undergraduate students in Natural Sciences teaching programs to develop extension activities, aligning with national guidelines for University Extension and theoretical frameworks on scientific divulgation.
