Abstract

This study investigates the factors that contribute to the teaching illness in elementary schools in the state public system of Paraná. This is a bibliographic, documentary and field research, supported by the studies of Esteves (1999), Codo (2006), Souza and Leite (2011). It is also intended to present reflections on the high number of duties and responsibilities imposed on this professional and the consequences that result in the so-called teacher malaise. The results achieved show that most of the leaves of duty and sick leave are due to illnesses, in the first place, emotional, and secondly, due to problems of physical exhaustion. The results, while not allowing absolute conclusions, draw attention to the need to think immediately, especially by the maintainer of the State Network, urgent actions through permanent and effective public policies aimed, if not solving, at least minimize the problems of health in the field of teaching.
